ABOUT EMDR THERAPY
Yes, EMDR can be done online with telehealth!
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR therapy is a very effective modality for overcoming trauma, anxiety, depression, phobias, some addictive behaviors, motor vehicle accidents, natural disasters, relationship challenges, and more. Trauma may include cultural/racialized trauma, physical, emotional, sexual abuse/assault, accidents, and other traumas affecting mental health and emotional well being. EMDR Therapy is also a very effective method for enhancing life skills and strengthening internal resources such as confidence, relaxation, focus, and motivation.

HOW DOES EMDR WORK?
EMDR works by activating both hemispheres of the brain at the same time through
bilateral stimulation. Typically, people are right or left side dominant but with EMDR, both hemispheres are working at the same capacity and speed. This allows for rapid processing in the brain. This connection allows trauma to be identified in the brain by highlighting the affected trauma network. It then rapidly clears out the trauma, moving it from being stuck in emotional mind to processing into logical mind.
EMDR does not cause people to forget the trauma, or being happy about the trauma, but rather it allows people to not continue to feel the trauma as if it just happened. For example, if you have ever had surgery you healed from in the past, you may remember waking up and being in a lot of pain. The difference now is that you no longer feel the pain. You remember that it was there, but that pain is not there now. EMDR is very similar! Once reprocessing and healing are complete; you may look back on the trauma(s) and remember that it was painful, but the pain is no longer there. Along with the pain being gone, so are all those negative or unhelpful thoughts you’ve had about yourself and the world around you. Instead, you experience positive beliefs and positive emotions.
EMDR works with major, “big T” traumas and smaller “t” traumas, emotions, and thoughts that seem irrational, intrusive, or unhelpful. It also works on phobias, panic attacks, anxiety, and addiction (among a growing body of research in other areas). Much of my EMDR work is focused on helping people heal from negative beliefs about themselves that emerged and were reinforced through many years of negative, harmful, or traumatic experiences.

More on EMDR from -The Parnell institute http://parnellemdr.com/emdr-and-af-emdr/
When emotionally disturbing events have occurred in one's life, the brain is often unable to process the experience as it normally would. Instead, the negative thoughts and feelings of the traumatic event can get "trapped" in the nervous system, with all of the accompanying sights, sounds, thoughts, and feelings. EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation - either through eye movements or other forms of gentle, rhythmic bilateral stimulation - which activates both sides of the brain, allowing for a release of painful emotional experiences from your nervous system.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful and effective therapy for the treatment of trauma. EMDR therapy incorporates eye movements or other bilateral stimulation into a comprehensive approach that processes and releases information trapped in the mind and body, freeing people from disturbing images and body sensations, debilitating emotions, and restrictive beliefs. This revolutionary therapy has helped millions of clients of all ages recover from such traumas as war, accidents, assaults, disasters, and childhood abuse. EMDR has been extensively researched as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and is considered to be an evidence-based therapy.
In addition to the treatment of PTSD, EMDR is also used to treat the psychological effects of smaller traumas that manifest in symptoms of depression, anxiety, phobias, low self-esteem, creativity blocks, and relationship difficulties. Not only does healing occur much more rapidly than in traditional therapy, but as a result of EMDR’s clearing of emotional and physical blockages, many people also experience a sense of joy, openness, and deep connection with others. EMDR is a quantum leap in the human ability to heal trauma and maladaptive beliefs.
